H.E. Dr. William Ruto is the fifth President of Kenya, having taken office in September 2022 after serving as Deputy President from 2013 to 2022. He is a career public servant and entrepreneur with a proven track record across key sectors of government and business. Academically accomplished, President Ruto holds a Ph.D. in Plant Ecology and degrees in Botany and Zoology from the University of Nairobi. Before his presidency, Dr. Ruto held several ministerial positions, including Minister for Home Affairs (2002), Minister for Agriculture (2008–2010), and Minister for Higher Education, Science and Technology (2010–2011). In each of these roles, he focused on policy reform and modernization, notably transforming Kenya’s agricultural value chains and enhancing access to technical education. As President, he has prioritized economic transformation under a “bottom-up” model aimed at empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), strengthening food security, and attracting both domestic and foreign investment. His administration is advancing infrastructure development, digital innovation, and a green energy transition targeting 100% renewable electricity by 2030.
