About me
Mary Nyaga is a dynamic individual and visionary changemaker in education, skills development, vocational training, and women’s empowerment across Africa. Driven by a deep passion for youth development and preparing the future workforce, Mary is committed to empowering children and youth through quality education and practical skills training. With a proven track record of transformative work, she believes that equipping young people with the right knowledge and competencies is essential to achieving Africa’s sustainable growth and prosperity.
Her extensive experience in project management, combined with her engagement with private sector actors, development partners, and learning institutions, has enabled her to lead impactful initiatives that enhance community literacy, especially in underserved areas. Mary has consistently championed talent and leadership development for C-suite women, marginalized youth, and women in informal sectors. She has advanced vocational education and training (TVET), promoted dual training models, supported the establishment of educational institutions, and strengthened skills development programs tailored to the continent’s evolving workforce needs.
In her current role at the African Union Development Agency – NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD), Mary contributes to strategic efforts to strengthen skills development ecosystems and forge deep partnerships with the government, private sector and international development agencies. Her work ensures that education and training systems, particularly TVET, align with the future of work and contribute to decent job creation across Africa.
A passionate advocate for STEM education, Mary lead the Girls’ Initiative, a mentorship program that connects young girls with inspiring women role models in science and technology.
Mary Nyaga’s bold vision, and collaborative spirit continue to power Africa’s journey toward inclusive, people-centered development. She firmly believes that the greatest wealth we can give our African children and youth is education - the greatest asset for Africa’s future.
Mary is a Seasoned Programme Manager with 20+ years leading skills development, leadership training, and multi-sector partnerships across Africa.
Expert in youth employment, gender equality, policy advocacy. Mary holds a Bachelor of Science In Public Health Policy, Professional certificates in the area of Board Governance, Leadership Development, Workforce devleopment through Psychometric assessments, Economic Empowerment and Skills Development.
