About me

Cyrus W. Badio is a veteran public relations specialist, with a professional career spanning more than 30 (thirty) years. At the peak of his career, Mr. Badio served as Press Secretary to President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf for the entire duration of her first term in office from January 2006 to February 2012. During that period, Badio was the official spokesman for the Office of the President and liaised with the media and the public on behalf of the President. His duties included working with both local and international media in maintaining a positive image of the government. In 2016, Badio joined the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) as Head of Corporate Communications and injected a new sense of purpose within the Bank’s communications. He developed a strategic communications roadmap for the rebranding and re-imaging of the organization with a focus on monetary policy communications, a flagship radio talk show – Money Matters, a quality quarterly magazine, inter-departmental communications support, and regular stakeholder/media engagement. During his 7 year stint at the CBL as Head of Corporate Communications, the operations of the Bank became more visible; thanks to a deliberate strategic communications plan which adopted a proactive approach in the implementation of plan. Badio also worked at the state-owned broadcaster, the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), where he served as Assistant Director General for News from 1990 to 1993. Between 1984 and 1987, he was Editor-in-Chief of the News Department of LBS, managing the production of news and news-oriented programs and in 1984 became news anchor and reporter with LBS, a post he held until 1987. Mr. Badio has also served at the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL); a national organization responsible for overseeing the oil and gas production industries in Liberia. Between April 2012 – September 2015, he served as Director for Public Affairs, responsible, among other things, to develop and implement a communications and engagement strategy. He also organized media events and answered press inquiries and accompanied the VP for Public Affairs and other NOCAL executives at High level meetings with stakeholders and provided guidance to executives on media related matters. Between 2013 and 2014, Badio also served as Acting Vice President for Public Affairs, responsible to oversee media relations, social and electronic media. He conducted public engagements on Liberia’s oil sector; develop strong stakeholder relations; developed and implemented NOCAL’s public relations strategy; oversee internal communications and served as NOCAL spokesman. Mr. Badio holds a M.A. degree in International Relations from the Ibrahim Babangida School of International Relations, University of Liberia and a B. A. degree from the same university. He has received a host of certification in several fields, ranging from media, international relations and news production. Mr. Badio is married and is an ardent lover of music and sports, particularly football.
