About me
Hon. Charles Umehai was appointed in February of 2024 by the President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. to serve in the position as Deputy Minister for Energy at the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
Honorable Charles Umehai comes with over 24 years of experience and robust background in exploration geology, mining, environment and energy facilities planning. Before his appointment as Deputy Minister for Energy, he served as Principal Geoscientist for BHPBilliton West Africa, Superintendent for Quality Control at the Arcelor Mittal and acting Head of Department for the Technical Services at Arcelor Mittal in Liberia.
Honorable Charles Umehai has also worked in Guinea on the Mt. Nimba project and he also started the Dieke Iron Ore project in Guinea.
He holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Regional Planning from the University of Liberia, Bachelor’s degree in Geology from the Delta State University in Nigeria, certificate in Power facilities planning and training from China and several other professional certificates.
The Deputy Minister is passionate on national efforts to ensure access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for all Liberians, and has embarked on ensuring private sector participation in the Energy Sector of Liberia.
