Carlos Yum is a professional with over 29 years of experience in the electricity sector, having played a prominent role in the development of strategic power generation and transmission projects in Mozambique and across the SADC region.
Current Leadership
Since July 2020, he has been appointed by the Government of Mozambique to lead the structuring and implementation of the Mphanda Nkuwa Hydropower Project, as well as its associated high-voltage transmission infrastructure, through the Mphanda Nkuwa Hydropower Project Implementation Office (GMNK).
The project foresees an installed capacity of up to 1,500 MW and 400 kV transmission lines, with an estimated investment of USD 6.5 billion.
Previous Experience
Between 2014 and 2020, he served as Executive Director of Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), where he was responsible for strategic areas such as Business Development, Strategic Planning and Corporate Performance, Electrification, Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Commercialization, as well as System Operations and Market.
From 1997 to 2014, he held various management positions at EDM, including Commercial Director, Director of Corporate Management and Performance, Director of the Business Development Unit, and Advisor in the Market Operations Department
Regional Contributions
He served as Chairman of the Board of the Ressano Garcia Thermal Power Plant (CTRG) and led key regional subcommittees within the Southern Africa Power Pool (SAPP), such as the Planning Subcommittee and the Management Committee of SADC power utilities, between 2007 and 2014.
