About me
My name is Astrid Dessi-Foulon, Legal, Compliance & Public Affairs Director for Scania in West Africa.
I am a trained lawyer (Paris Bar), with degrees in OHADA, French and Moroccan law, and over ten years of experience in strategic and legal advisory roles, both in law firms and within multinational companies. I am also a graduate of the Swedish Institute’s Global Executive Program, renowned for its excellence in sustainable leadership. Driven by high‑impact social and environmental initiatives, I focus my work on advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
At Scania West Africa, I work at the forefront of a major transformation toward cleaner, more inclusive and more sustainable transport systems.
As an example of our environmental impact, in Côte d’Ivoire—within the framework of the Sustainable Transport Project conducted with the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs—Scania and its partners (TotalEnergies, ANADER, LA SIR and SOTRA) successfully implemented a biodiesel pilot project. This initiative, supported by Team Sweden, produced biodiesel locally from rubber seeds and enabled the first engine‑compatibility testing on a Scania bus operated by SOTRA. The pilot confirmed the reduction of 56% of CO2 emission, and the pilot project confirms the significant potential of locally‑produced biofuels for emission reduction. The success of these efforts contributes directly to national climate commitments (CDN 3.0).
Concerning the social impact of our initiatives, we are proud to contribute to capacity‑building within the transport sector through two major projects:
In Ghana, nearly 100 women have been trained as bus or truck drivers in Accra under the Women Moving the City and Women Moving Trucks initiatives, supported by the German development agency GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit). https://www.scania.com/group/en/home/about-scania/scania-in-brief/partnerships/sponsorship-and-community-engagement/a-sustainable-society/women-moving-the-city.html
In Côte d’Ivoire, the CETAO project enabled the training of 432 young people and women for the national Road Driver Competency Certificate (CACR), also with the support of GIZ. (https://www.aip.ci/187080/cote-divoire-aip-le-projet-cetao-forme-432-jeunes-pour-transformer-la-mobilite-urbaine/)
Finally, we continue to pursue our ambition "to drive the shift" for an accessible and sustainable transport ecosystem through the feasibility study of a commercial vehicle assembly unit, which aims to strengthen local industrial capacity and improve long‑term access to transport solutions.
We firmly believe that the development of sustainable mobility in Côte d’Ivoire relies on strategic partnerships (SDG 17) to build sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), protect the environment (SDGs 13, 12 and 7), and ultimately ensure better access to transport for all (SDGs 5 and 11).
