I am a Namibian legal practitioner with over twenty years of experience, and my work sits at an interesting intersection; finance, law, and the mining sector. I co-founded Gontes & Hamunyela Incorporate in Windhoek, where my practice focuses on Foreign Direct Investment, corporate and commercial law, and High Court litigation, alongside more traditional areas like estate administration and family law. I am currently building a specialisation in Foreign Direct Investment, an area I have become increasingly drawn to as Namibia’s investment landscape has grown more complex and more exciting. My interest in FDI grew organically out of years of legal practice and a long career in the mining sector. I have realised that the legal and compliance infrastructure supporting investment needs as much attention as the investment itself. I hold multiple degrees and accounting credentials, which means I tend to approach legal problems with a financial lens, something clients navigating complex investment decisions find useful. I recently launched Namibia FDI Insights, a newsletter tracking legislative and policy developments relevant to foreign investors in Namibia. It started as a way to sharpen my own thinking, but it has become a platform for engaging seriously with questions around the Foreign Investment Act, NIPDB incentives, and what AfCFTA means practically for businesses on the ground. I am genuinely excited about where Namibia is headed, particularly around green hydrogen and critical minerals, and I want to be part of the conversations shaping how that growth happens.
