About me
Dagmar Honsbein is a Namibian sustainability and economic development specialist with more than 30 years of leadership experience at the intersection of policy, investment, industrial development, and sustainable transformation. She is the Managing Member of iDEALX Integrated Scientific Services, a Namibia-based advisory and technical services firm that supports governments, development partners, private sector institutions, and industry associations across Southern Africa and beyond.
Her work is defined by a rare combination of strategic insight, technical depth, and implementation experience. She has led complex initiatives in applied research and development, economic transformation, institutional reform, sustainable supply and value chain development, and risk management across both the real and financial sectors. Her expertise spans natural resources, nature-based enterprise development, industrialisation, trade competitiveness, sustainable finance, and techno-economics.
Dagmar currently serves as Senior Technical Advisor to the BioInnovation Africa Project, where she has helped shape strategic interventions across the continent to advance biodiversity-based enterprise development, sustainable commercialisation of natural resources, Access and Benefit Sharing, standards compliance, and international market access. Her leadership has contributed to business model innovation, sector strategy design, standards development, and capacity-building systems that strengthen SMEs, cooperatives, and public institutions.
She is widely recognised for her contribution to ethical biotrade and premium international market development. Among her notable achievements, she co-authored the Namibia National Forestry Standard, led the development of the Namibian GACP Plus Standard for Devil’s Claw, and guided the establishment of Good Manufacturing Practices for Namibia’s cosmetics industry. These efforts have strengthened quality assurance, sustainability verification, and traceability across key indigenous natural product value chains. Under her leadership, iDEALX is also a member of the Union for Ethical BioTrade, reinforcing its commitment to responsible sourcing and transparent supply chains.
In addition, Dagmar is the lead technical author of the BioInnovation Academy, a digital learning platform for biodiversity-based business development and sustainable supply chains (www.atingi.org). Through this and related initiatives, she continues to equip entrepreneurs, communities, SMEs, and public institutions with practical capabilities in biodiversity valorisation, governance, entrepreneurship, sustainable supply chains, and compliance with global market requirements.
Her public leadership experience is equally distinguished. She previously served as Director of Economic Policy Advisory Services at Namibia’s Ministry of Finance and has held senior board roles across several of the country’s leading institutions, including BIPA, AgriBank, DebMarine Namibia, and NamDeb Holdings. As Chair of the Presidential Task Force on Economic Recovery, she plays a central role in advancing Namibia’s agenda for inclusive recovery, institutional efficiency, investor confidence, and long-term economic resilience.
Dagmar holds an MPhil in Chemical Engineering and Applied Sciences from Aston University and an MA in Leadership in Sustainable Finance from Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, alongside specialist certifications in SME and micro-finance, financial inclusion, management accounting, risk management, climate adaptation finance, and renewable energy finance.
Fluent in English, German, and Afrikaans, with working knowledge of French and a basic understanding of Spanish and Finnish, Dagmar brings a distinctly international perspective to African development.
At the EU–Namibia Business Summit, she offers a compelling voice on investment promotion, biodiversity-based industrialisation, economic recovery, and sustainable competitiveness — grounded in the conviction that strong institutions, responsible stewardship of natural capital, and well-functioning markets are essential to building resilient and inclusive prosperity.
