Peter Varndell serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the NEPAD Business Foundation (NBF), a non-profit organization renowned for mobilizing and managing impactful development projects through public-private partnerships over the past two decades.
Before his appointment as CEO, Peter served as Programme Manager for NBF’s Africa Infrastructure Desk, where he provided leadership and technical expertise on the North-South Corridor Rail Project. This initiative brought together seven rail operators across the SADC region to strengthen intra-African trade through improved rail infrastructure.
In line with NBF’s mandate, Peter also acts as Executive Secretary for the Strategic Water Partner Network (SWPN) Programme which facilitates key water sector partnerships and initiatives.
With over 20 years of experience in infrastructure development, Peter brings extensive expertise in the transport, energy, and water sectors, with a particular emphasis on economic development and stakeholder engagement. Deeply passionate about Africa’s growth, he is dedicated to advancing public-private partnerships that promote inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development across the continent.
Peter is a chartered civil engineer, holding a B.Eng. in Civil Engineering, and is a chartered member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK).
