Information

Home to 30% of the world’s mineral reserves and abundant renewable energy sources, Africa is well-placed to tackle a dual challenge: providing electricity access to 600 million people while transitioning to low-carbon systems. With strong policy direction – through the AU’s continent-wide Energy Transition Strategy and Action Plan and Africa-EU Green Energy Initiative – both continents can unlock strategic opportunities in decentralised renewables, regional interconnections and green industrialisation. The conversation panel will explore ways to:

  • Advance harmonised standards, green investment frameworks, and regional power markets aligned with AfSEM-CMP, the AU’s masterplan for a continent-wide electricity market
  • Derisk investments and strengthen project preparation to improve bankability
  • Develop the skills and entrepreneurship required to scale Africa’s green energy transition.
