Project Pitch
Banana Production. The Mununshi Fruit Company Limited has the objective of increasing production capacity of the fruit industry in the country. Thus, reducing the banana deficit on both domestic and regional markets. The project sits on approximately 313 hectares of land and current production of bananas is on a 30 hectare land with further 100 hectares already cleared for expansion and 50 Ha marked and pitted awaiting planting of banana suckers. The market is available with a domestic deficit of about 15,000MT. It is also envisioned that the project will take advantage of both the domestic and regional markets to start processing the bananas. Additionally, future expansion will also include the production of other commercially viable fruits such as Avocados and Mangos for supply into the local and regional markets. The total estimated cost needed for the project is USD 9 million. Hence, a strategic equity partner(s) is required to finance the purchase of banana suckers as well as the associated storage and handling costs. This project is allocated in Mwense District, Luapula Province.
