Project Pitch
Miodon Aquatics Fish Farm Project. Miodon Aquatics’ tilapia fish farming project is based in Livingstone, Zambia. The project envisions to take fish farming to a new level with the In Pond Raceway System (IPRS) that was developed by Auburn University, USA. This IPRS system increases fish production by at least 3 times compared to traditional green water ponds currently used in subSaharan Africa. Additionally, this project will include 48ha of ponds, a hatchery, a feed plant, a fish filleting factory, and an organic fertilizer plant to get rid of fish waste and a hybrid solar/pumped storage. In addition, this project is designed to run on 100% renewable energy as well as being environmentally friendly. This in turn will enable the project to produce upwards of 75 tons of fish per ha/year, which equates to 3600 tons of fish per year. According to the Ministry of Fisheries, Zambia has a deficit of 70 000tons of fish/year. An indication that there is availability of market for fish and with the use of IPRS, this project will reduce the deficit of fish on the market. Further, this will be a climate smart project with reduced carbon emissions. To achieve this, the project will obtain certification for Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) to ensure guaranteed highquality product for export to overseas markets. Despite some environmentally friendly projects powered by solar, are often not profitable, the hybrid solar/pumped storage system of this project will be cheap enough to build and thus make the whole project still very profitable. The project is open for FDI through a minority stake or through a loan.
