Kalongo Chitengi - General Manager of AGCO Zambia Limited. Kalongo has over twenty years work experience in the private sector, state enterprises and non-governmental organisations at senior management level. She has worked extensively on rural agriculture & food systems, environmental and community development programmes in Zambia and across the continent. AGCO is an agricultural equipment and technology manufacturing company headquartered in the United States. She leads the AGCO Future Farm in Lusaka that focuses on agriculture research to support mechanisation and agriculture innovation and growth, farmer capacity building & farm commercialisation with a specific focus on small holder farmers. Before joining AGCO, Kalongo was the country director of Self Help Africa Zambia, a role she held for ten years. Self Help Africa is an Irish aid agency working to reduce hunger and poverty in rural communities across Africa. Kalongo is a PhD candidate (Rhodes University) defending in 2026): Research on farmer -led extension services and agro-ecological approaches for sustainable food security. She holds an MBA (global marketing) from the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Environmental Studies from the Copperbelt University in Zambia. Kalongo is a LEAD Fellow in Sustainable Development (Population Nexus, Environment and Development )and author of the book “Farming as a business: An examination of the gender perspective”. Kalongo is the 2016 Regional and Country winner (Southern Africa) in Welfare and Civil Society Organisations sector of the CEO Global Africa’s Most Influential Women in Business and Government Awards.
