Tichakunda (Tich) is a Principal Programme Officer – Energy at the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), leading the Energy Unit of the Infrastructure Digitalisation and Energy Division. The Energy Unit works with Regional Economic Communities, Regional Power Pools, Development Finance Institutions, Multilateral Development Banks, Development Partners, and Power Utilities to advance Priority Energy Infrastructure Projects under the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), the Continental Power Systems Masterplan (CMP), and the Africa Single Electricity Market (AfSEM). His key responsibilities encompass managing partner-funded programs, spearheading project identification, mobilizing resources, and facilitating the implementation of African Union priority energy projects and programs. As a member of the AUDA-NEPAD Energy team developing the CMP and AfSEM, Tich works closely with Power Pools, Regional Economic Communities, Power Utilities, and African Union Member States. The CMP and AfSEM are flagship projects of the African Union Agenda 2063, aiming to harness Africa’s abundant natural resources for socio-economic development by enabling electricity trade between Africa’s five Power Pools and expanding the continent’s electricity trade with Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. These flagship projects contribute to creating a robust framework that fosters regional integration and sustainable energy solutions across the continent.
