Am an urban and regional planning practitioner since 1999 with the ministry of Local Government and Rural Development focusing on sustainable human settlements. My work includes facilitating the formulation of regional, district and local development plans in Zambia that bring to the fore development priorities for government, private sector, community and other non-state actors to actualise or invest in. Currently working on the Greater Lusaka Regional Development Plan in liaison with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency covering entire Lusaka City and parts of four surrounding districts namely Chibombo, Chongwe, Chilanga and Kafue. The plan aims to mitigate against the unplanned urbanization of the region and re-direct development interventions in transport, water and sanitation, housing, waste management, social infrastructure and city redevelopment, among others covering the period 2025-2045. The Lobito Corridor presents an opportunity to formulate a regional development plan that highlights the investment opportunities aligned to the corridor 's spatial pattern and the national, provincial, district and subdistrict development plans and priorities and this excites me as an urban planner.
