About me
My name is Geda Duressa Olkeba, and I am an Ethiopian climate change and sustainable development professional working at the intersection of environmental governance, agriculture, and institutional leadership. Over the past decade, I have built my career across government institutions, universities, and international organizations, focusing on practical solutions that strengthen climate resilience and community development. I hold an MSc in Climate Change and Sustainable Agriculture from Hawassa University, a BSc in Natural Resource Management from Adama Science and Technology University, and a BSc in Accounting and Finance Management from Rift Valley University. This combination of environmental science and financial management allows me to approach sustainability not only from an ecological perspective, but also from an economic and governance lens.
I currently serve as a Senior Climate Change and Environmental Expert, certified by the Environment Protection Authority, where I focus on climate policy analysis, environmental impact assessment, and pollution management. Earlier in my career, I worked with Farm Africa as a climatologist, supporting forest restoration, biodiversity protection, and community-based natural resource management programs. I also served as Senior Expert in Natural Resource Management within the Oromia regional agricultural office, where I coordinated land rehabilitation and sustainable agriculture initiatives.
In academia, I was Director of TVET and Research & Quality Expert at Rift Valley University from 2020 to 2024. In this role, I led institutional reforms to strengthen technical education, improve research standards, and align academic programs with environmental and labor market realities. I also co-founded a Special Needs Program at Dambi Dollo University, integrating inclusive education with environmental awareness and community outreach. Currently, I serve as Project Manager at the Scholars Association for Development, leading multidisciplinary projects that connect climate resilience, youth engagement, and local economic empowerment.
My work has been recognized on international platforms. I presented research at the International Conference on Global Warming and Climate Change in Brazil and participated in the World Social and Economic Forum in Istanbul in collaboration with Ibn Haldun University. I am also engaged with global initiatives such as the UN-REDD Programme Academy and the Food and Agriculture Organization training programs on gender equality in climate adaptation and mitigation. These experiences have strengthened my belief that climate action must be science-based, inclusive, and economically viable.
Beyond my formal roles, I serve as a Global Ambassador of Sustainability, a Human Rights Advocate with the Oromia Human Rights Commission, and a member of continental and global leadership networks. I work fluently in Afaan Oromo, Amharic, and English, and I am committed to building partnerships between Africa and Europe that translate climate ambition into measurable impact.
At the EU Business Forum, I aim to contribute practical insight from Ethiopia’s environmental and agricultural transformation, while exploring strategic collaboration in green investment, sustainable trade, and climate-smart development.
