The scope of works will comprise:

 The construction of 758 km of standard gauge railway lines.

 Marshalling yards at Asikuma, Tamale and Paga.

 Fully fitted maintenance facility at Asikuma, Tamale and Paga.

 Stations, halts and other operating facilities.

 Railhead facility at Paga.

 Signalling and communication system.

 Supply of 10no. locomotives, 500no. wagons and 4no. DMUs.

 Supply of rail recovery equipment.

The Ghana - Burkina Faso railway project is expected to enhance trade and regional integration, reduce transportation costs, and improve logistics between Tema and Ouagadougou. It aims to move cargo from road to rail, lowering carbon emissions and road maintenance costs while boosting economic growth and creating jobs in both nations.

The expected public service outcomes include:

 Regional Connectivity & Economic Growth: The rail line will improve connectivity between Ghana and landlocked neighbouring countries like Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, facilitating efficient cross-border freight traffic and economic integration.

 Reduced Transportation Costs & Time: The project will provide a safer, faster, and more cost-effective method for transporting goods, reducing reliance on expensive road freight.

 Reduced Traffic and Road Damage: By shifting freight movement from roadways to railways, it will decrease traffic congestion on key routes, reduce accidents, and minimize damage caused by heavy trucks on roads.

 Industrialization & Development: The project aims to stimulate industrial activity along the corridor and boost export-import trades, specifically connecting Burkina Faso to the Port of Tema.

 Increased Revenue Generation: The project is anticipated to enhance revenue from passenger and cargo services, bolstering the railway sector's capacity for self-financing.

 Job Creation: It is expected to create a significant number of direct and indirect employment opportunities for local communities during both the construction and operation phases.

 Environmental & Safety Improvements: Reduced carbon emissions by offering a sustainable alternative to road transportation and reduced traffic accidents
