Project Pitch

UVU Bio proposes a vaccine manufacturing platform that combines open-access laboratory infrastructure, technical expertise, enterprise development, and skills training to strengthen Rwanda’s health and pharmaceutical ecosystem. The model supports early-stage innovators, SMEs, and emerging manufacturers to develop, test, refine, and commercialise vaccine-related products, technologies, and services, while building a pipeline of talent for local vaccine manufacturing.

The business model is built on blended revenue and catalytic support. This includes programme funding, service-based income from laboratory access and technical support, venture support fees, training programmes, and strategic partnerships with public and private sector stakeholders. This approach helps de-risk innovation while building long-term sustainability.

Operationally, the platform integrates shared infrastructure, technical advisory, business incubation, manufacturing readiness support, and ecosystem convening. Ventures and partners receive structured support across product development, process optimisation, quality and regulatory readiness, business model refinement, and access to customers, funders, and industry collaborators. In parallel, UVU Bio delivers targeted training in vaccine manufacturing, bioprocessing, quality systems, and entrepreneurship to strengthen local capabilities.

The project will contribute to more resilient healthcare infrastructure, local vaccine production capacity, job creation, and innovation-led industrial growth in Rwanda.
